Raid Nana's cookbook

One of the best hints I can give anyone who is raising a family and doesn’t know what to cook for them each night, is to start an ongoing diary of what you cook.

Simply buy an ordinary exercise book and keep it handy in your kitchen, preferably with a pen attached to the front so you have no excuse not to fill it out.  Whenever you prepare meals, make a note of what you cook and you’ll find that whenever you’re lost for inspiration, you can refer to your book and see what’s been popular with the family on other occasions.

For instance, in my What To Cook Book, I have listed the following at different times:
• Mincey Spaghetti
• Shepherd’s Pie
• Chicken Soup
• Minestrone Soup
• Braised Steak with Gravy and Mashed Potatoes
• Tuna Salad
• Quiche
• Quick Moussaka
• Rushed Tomato Sauce
• Stove Top Pizza
• Bought-Base Pizza
• Fried Rice
• Lasagna
• Potato and Lentil Soup
• Pasta Al Forno
• Sausages, Eggs and Tomatoes
• Egg and Chips
• Steak Burgers

Everyone has their regular repertoire that they rely on.  But if you ask someone what they’re cooking tonight, they’d often have no idea.  Instead, ask them what they cooked last night because the thinking has already been done!
